{"id":27728,"date":"2012-12-17T11:59:52","date_gmt":"2012-12-17T16:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=27728"},"modified":"2012-12-17T17:14:26","modified_gmt":"2012-12-17T22:14:26","slug":"former-soldiers-were-remanded-in-custody-for-a-priest-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2012\/12\/17\/former-soldiers-were-remanded-in-custody-for-a-priest-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"Former soldiers were remanded in custody for a priest murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After endorsing the evidence material presented by a Prosecutor\u2019s Office, Luis Andres Vargas Pestana and Carlos Ivan Sierra Saavedra (former soldiers) were remanded in custody by the Third Mixed Jurisdiction Court in Turbo (Antioquia), acting as Supervisory Court, for the murder of the priest of Acand\u00ed town (Choc\u00f3), Gaulberto Antonio Oviedo Arrieta.<\/p>\n<p>The priest was killed with a cutting weapon, on September 13, 2011, when he was sleeping in his house located in the small town of Capurgana, and in accordance with the investigation conducted by a Sectional Prosecutor in Choc\u00f3, the motive was related to the theft of money and jewels owned by the victim.<\/p>\n<p>By the time of the facts, Pestana Vargas and Sierra Saavedra were part of a contingent of peasant soldiers attached to the battalion Francisco de Paula Velez of the 17th Brigade, based in Carepa (Antioquia).
