He was born in Santander and he holds a Law degree. Acevedo Quintero earned a master´s degree in Criminal Procedure Law from Universidad Militar Nueva Granada and he majored in Development Project Assessment from Universidad Santo Tomás de Bogotá and Public Law from Universidad Externado de Colombia.

Before he joined the Office of the Attorney General, he worked as lawyer for the private sector and the Superintendence of Notaries and Registry Offices.

Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General in 1995, he worked as lawyer in the private sector and for the Superintendence of Notaries and Registry.

His first position at the Office of the Attorney General was investigator, then he was head of the judicial police and the Division of Investigations.

For 25 years, he has served as prosecutor in different units such as the then Unit against Money Laundering, the Unit of Crimes against Public Administration, the National Unit against Kidnapping and Extortion, and the Specialized Office against Criminal organizations.

He was also sectional director of prosecutors’ offices and director of the Technical Investigative Corps (CTI) in eight (8) sectional offices for 10 years. He was National Director in 2003.
